My name is Mercedes Pedreira Quiroga … I am from Galicia (Spain), I was born in Lugo, 54  years ago….

I decided at the last minute to study Psychology ... I doubted between that and mathematics ... And I do not regret it ... I think I have one of the best professions in the world ... No two people are alike ... from all my clients I learn ... from their professions, hobbies, experiences ... They challenge me and I challenge them ...

I studied at the Santiago de Compostela University ... Shortly after starting to work ... I saw that I needed to get more training, that the cognitive-behavioral approach that I was taught in college was not fulfilling...

And I started the journey: family therapy, psychodrama, Transactional Analysis ... and I met Richard and the INTEGRATIVE PSYCHOTHERAPY ... and I stayed ... I found a community that shares my way of seeing the person, and my way of working ... and in which I can use all my professional and personal background with a framework that provides meaning, guidance and coherence ...

I have been working in the field of addictions for 28 years, in a public institution ... with people who have found in alcohol, cocaine, heroin, pills or tobacco ways to survive and manage their anguish, difficulties …

And for 18 years, I also have my private practice with another partner … GABINETE  SENDA

In 2011 in Vichy, I got certified as an integrative psychotherapist ... and now in Montpellier I will participate in the Trainer and Supervisor certification...

Training/supervision as a way to expand the benefits of our model ... To train psychotherapists, counselors, social educators, health workers, teachers ... professionals that are in contact with other people, in helping relationships... that can see the other, that can contact healthily ...

Some years ago, Amaia Mauriz proposed me to join the CSC (Committee of Standards and Certifications) of our Association ...This has allowed me to know better our way of doing, and to get to know many people ... I am deeply proud of our association ... how we facilitate professional-personal growth, how we resolve conflicts ...

To me, being a psychotherapist has to do with the BEING, it is not merely a job, a role ... it goes beyond ... the commitment with my client, with his well-being, and with mine, it is a vital responsibility ... within my community, with the world ... I deeply believe in the transforming power of Integrative Psychotherapy ... that it returns freedom ... to be and to live…

In this meeting I also enrich myself, I grow, I learn ... I get to know very different people from me or my environment ... that let me know them in the most intimate ... they are magical encounters ... healing ... .. different from any other ...

This way of doing, of approaching my clients, I owe it, in large part, to the IIPA ... to its model ... Since I met Richard, in his workshops, and in my personal therapy ... throughout these years I have been growing, becoming more solid, more in contact with myself ... with everything I am (body, thoughts, emotions, acts, ... soul) ... Feeling more serene, confident, dignified, secure ... Respect, unconditional acceptance, push to grow...the fact they saw me not only what I was but also who I could become ... what I received ... It was integrated within me ... I transform myself... And almost naturally, I decide to show who I am ... and to approach others from that respect, acceptance ... to flow.... Like in a dance ... And it's not always easy or sweet ... But there's freedom, the freedom to be one without fear...

I love human being ... to get to know it, to know myself...

And I could not live without nature ... .Galicia, my land, its forests with chestnuts and oaks ... its rivers, its sea ... Every day, when going to my work I pass through one of those forests, with ancient trees .... I have painted them ...

... because I paint ... I express myself better with my paintings ... it's me ... my soul ... And I love sharing with you some of them ...

... And music ... also occupies an important place in my life ... it accompanies me ... it's the soundtrack ... of all kinds ... classical, rock, pop, indie ...
